Advocacy & Issues: Your Voice on Capitol Hill
Advocating for our members and promoting the value of the ASC ophthalmic facility to legislators and policymakers is an important priority for OOSS. To do this, we address legislative and regulatory issues that affect your financial and clinical bottom line. We also strive to keep our members informed about Washington’s legislative and regulatory activities through advisories, issue briefs, our Washington Update Online, and weekly updates as needed.
Grassroots Participation: Power in Numbers
OOSS grassroots network supports the ophthalmic ASC community in the legislative process by promoting legislation that will have a positive impact on owner/surgeons. OOSS Advocates call, e-mail, fax, write, and meet with their Members of Congress on behalf of the ophthalmic ASC community. Currently, there are more than 1,200 Advocates, comprised of OOSS members throughout the country, and the team continues to grow.
Communicating with Legislators: Becoming an Ophthalmic ASC Advocate
OOSS’ Public Policy Division maintains a website that involves our members directly in the political process. This site, OOSS Advocacy Center enables OOSS Advocates across the country to communicate directly with their elected officials, by sending tailored e-mails on issues of importance for the ophthalmic ASC community.
Other resources offered at the site include an online Congressional Directory with photos, bios, committee assignments and staff members;a Congressional ZIP code matching service; and a daily schedule of Congressional events and committee hearings as well as tracking voting records on ASC issues for all members of Congress.
