OOSS MEMBER BENEFITS
Government Affairs
Our focus is on those issues which directly and uniquely affect the industry.
Our lobbyist works with physician members, the industry coalition for restorative eye care, along with the AAO, ASCRS, ASC Association, and others to seek fair treatment for the industry. We work to educate our members and government officials about how government action affects the industry.
OOSS Major Initiatives for 2010 Include:
- Ensuring appropriate modifications to the ASC payment system implemented in 2008, including:
- Securing annual cost of living increases at the Hospital Market Basket rather than the Consumer Price Index - Urban
- Eliminating secondary rescaling of ASC relative weights, which arbitrarily reduces ASC payments
- Secure higher percentage of hospital rates for ASCs
- Applying local hospital wage indices to ASC rates
- Ensuring that quality of care reporting by ASCs is implemented with use of appropriate measures developed in consultation with the ASC and ophthalmology communities

OOSS President’s Council
Enhance your commitment to the industry by joining the OOSS President’s Council. OOSS’ challenges – particularly in the Nation’s Capital -- are immense.
The good news is that OOSS has the talent, resources and clout to get the job done. However, regular membership dues are not adequate to address and capitalize on all of the issues we face today. Thus, we must turn to you as leaders in our maturing industry, during this critical time in our history, by asking you to join the President’s Council.
As a Council member, you are invited to special briefings with policymakers and politicos and our OOSS leadership will call on you for your advice as we formulate OOSS policy positions, proposals, and new programs and services. Most importantly, your membership enhancement and leadership participation will ensure that OOSS continues to lead our industry commensurate with the opportunities and challenges we face
